As the world moves rapidly towards a "knowledge economy", and India emerges
as the principal provider of services to several countries, particularly in
the information technology sector, higher education for our youth in India
has become increasingly critical to
(a) narrow the current digital divide between the developed and the
developing world; and
(b) help the youth find appropriate jobs in the fast changing, more diverse
and expanding employment market or be meaningfully self-employed.
On the other hand, the education costs of professional courses in India are
rising and many bright students are turned away because they are unable to
bridge the large funding gap between the study costs and their financial
resources. This denial of opportunity leads to a terrible waste of talent;
it breeds frustration and anger, and potentially contributes to acute social
and political tensions. SHDF aims to open the door to higher education for
the financially disadvantaged students. SHDF believes that this is a sure
pathway to lift a family, a community and a nation, both socially and
economically.
Indian Diaspora
In this process, SHDF also provides an opportunity to the Indian Diaspora in
USA, as well as others, to share the fruits of their success and prosperity
through an experienced and dependable institution and make a profound
difference in the life of someone less fortunate.
