I have learnt with great pleasure about the valuable work being done by the Sikh Human Development Foundation in Washington. We are living in a world where human knowledge, particularly scientific and technological knowledge, has become a major source of power and wealth of nations. It is, therefore, of utmost importance that our children are empowered through education to operate on the frontiers of human knowledge. Your foundation dedicated as it is to poverty alleviation, lays particular emphasis on the grant of scholarships to needy students for higher education. Your effort to assist students in Gujarat after the earthquake in 2001 is also praise worthy.
I, therefore, write to send you my best wishes for the future growth of your foundation. I sincerely hope that you and your colleagues will be able to raise sufficient resources to facilitate implementation of your noble mission which is based on the Sikh principle of Seva and thereby render service to humanity without expecting any reward in return.
With warm regards, Yours sincerely,
Manmohan Singh

Sikh Human Development Foundation (SHDF) is doing an excellent job by extending the much required financial moral and spiritual support to those meritorious students who want to acquire the best professional education, but can not do so because of severe financial constraints which their families are having. In this age of materialisitic pursuits such benevolent acts are definitely a rarity. It is not only a concern which is informed of humaneness and magnanimity but also of the considerations of merit. Most particularly in developing countries like India Higher Education is becoming a mirage for the students belonging to poor families. They are gradually getting on the side-lines of advancing society and getting peripherilised as human beings. Corporatisation of the Higher Education makes human values as the first casualty. Yours is a platform, which is striving to become a bedrock against these onslaughts of ill directed modernity. Such platforms need strengthened more and more. Our institution is always on the look out to be of any help and support for this noble cause.
May the God Almighty bestow Its blessings upon you and your organisation so that serviceability may remain a cherished value.

Greetings to the Sikh Human Dev. Foundation
The objectives of your Foundation exemplify the essential principle of Guru Nanak's dictum:
The future doubtless belongs to the younger generation of Sikhs across the globe. They are the inheritors of the above noted enlightenment princple which has indeed acquired a certain urgency in This age of technology.
The dynamics of the Khalsa discipline are rooted in Guru Gobind Singh's inspirational declaration: "nischay kar apni jeet karon!" Shedding all fear our people need to re-inforce the faith and acquire the confidence to scale new heights in professional excellence, harnessing the God given skills and insights for the good of humanity.
Over the last four years your Foundation has done commendable work reflected in the number of scholarships awarded to meritorious and needy students. Mobilising additional resources is therefore a legitimate and logical quest.
I wish you God speed in these endeavors,
Saran Singh

Message from Narinder Singh, President of the Nishkam Council

Though the 'Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council (Regd.)(Nishkam), New Delhi' was set up in 1984, and the 'Sikh Human Development Foundation (SHDF) U.S.A.' in 1999, i.e. 15 years later, the two organizations share a common inspiration and goal derived from the daily sikh prayer, viz. "sarvat da bhalla" (Welfare of all), that is to serve all humanity, without any distinction of any kind whatsoever. In order to serve humanity, Nishkam takes up projects in educational, medical and vocational fields, whereas the SHDF has chosen the route of higher professional education for talented and needy students in India, and is providing them with the needed financial support to meet the funding gap in the cost of higher education.
Nishkam is delighted to join hands with SHDF in this noble endeavor, by providing the much needed support and supervision in India. Indeed, there is remakable synergy flowing out of this collaboration, and the program has seen impressive growth in the past four years. The SHDF now plans to progressively raise the number of annual scholarships to 500 over the next few years. Nishkam is working with SHDF to make this happen. We are well organized and ready to fully support this goal. We wish SHDF all the success in their endeavor of poverty alleviation and human development.
